I have received all kinds of feedback on my blog posts from this past week. Most of it was great, some asked questions and some of it was just sad.
I got some new and interesting labels: “Guru” - “Mystic” - “Enigma”. I’m not sure if those were meant negatively or as an insult or not, but I’m totally OK with those. THANKS!
I was told that my writing was “logically, theologically & philosophically flawed” and the “doctrine of demons.” I am leading people “nowhere special.” There were lots of scriptures copied and pasted and some people just missed the point entirely. It was quite interesting though that it seemed the blog that people had the most trouble with was the post affirming the LGBTQIA community. This is such a big hangup for people and I believe it comes from a misunderstanding of what sin/grace is. I will mostly likely venture into that topic next.
For now, I have no desire to debate and see no need to defend anything because it isn’t a battle. I did not come to my opinions because someone owned me in an argument. Spirituality is a journey and some are more adventurous than others.
I was so encouraged to get messages from people who disagree but still value our relationship. I’ve heard it said that “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.” It takes real relational maturity to be able to disagree without being disagreeable. Some people see something they disagree with and they just “can’t even.” They take their truth to the comments sections of the FaceBook walls of people that they haven’t spoken with in years (or ever!) to let them know where they are wrong. Maybe next time, just type it, save it, wait a few hours and if it’s still really that big of a deal, send a personal message. Or maybe, crazy idea here, just let it go. It’s ok. All will be well. Thank God we aren’t all the same.
“It takes God a long time to get us to stop thinking that unless everyone sees things exactly as we do, they must be wrong. That is never God’s view.”
~ Oswald Chambers
